I read just about everything that can be classified under the heading of Science Fiction or Fantasy, from the experimental and literary to the classic and pulpy.  I also read all lengths, from short fiction to epic door stopper series, with a healthy dose of novelette and novellas in between.  I’m especially fond of complicated world building, trope subversion and expectation manipulation, and works that go all in to try something interesting.  I’m a complete sucker for a juicy, chewy villain.

That said, my tastes in humor get very idiosyncratic very quickly.  Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett are brilliant, but don’t hit my personal taste very successfully.  In general, I’m probably the wrong editor for your satire and farce, regardless of genre.

To give you a sense of my taste, some of my favorite genre authors and books (not remotely complete):

  • Ann Leckie
  • N. K. Jemisin
  • Yoon Ha Lee
  • Robert Heinlein
  • Ken Liu
  • Sam J. Miller
  • Kai Ashante Wilson
  • Mary Robinette Kowal
  • The Night Circus, Erin Morgenstern
  • Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, Susanna Clarke
  • Spin, Robert Charles Wilson
  • The Name of the Wind, Patrick Rothfuss
  • Vatta’s War Series, Elizabeth Moon
  • River of Gods, Ian McDonald
  • Our Lady of the Ice, Cassandra Rose Clarke
