Minutes away from the end of NaNo, I have 70854 words, am probably about 2000 words from the end of the story, and thus am about 7000 words short of how long I expected it to be. I have never, ever before in my life, produced a short draft. This is, in fact the shortest novel I have written since the summer between 7th and 8th grade which was the summer of Jane Eyre except no orphans and with pirates. Come to think of it, I haven’t done pirates since then, until now. Maybe pirates induce brevity in my writing?

Anyway, I became officially annoyed when chapter 12 ran out of interesting things two pages in and started demanding that I switch to denouement mode. The body count this time around is also unnaturally low. I guess that’s what happens when two of the main characters are not allowed to die. Thus ends my (not so very) deep reflection on the project.
